Today there are more than 100,000 Americans on a waiting list for a kidney, heart, liver or other vital organ and another person is added every 16 minutes. Many of these people will die waiting for that transplant. Through my work with ARORA (Arkansas Regional Organ Recovery Agency) and UNOS (United network for Organ Sharing) I have realized that more than 25,000 Americans die each year under circumstances that would allow them to become an organ donor but an average of only about 5000 donate a year. The biggest reason for not donating is lack of education about the subject.
Something is wrong with this picture. Everyone can be an organ donor.

Miss Teen Arkansas International 2008
Stephanie Schwarz
Hi my name is Stephanie Schwarz I am 18 years old and just graduated from Mesquite High School. While attending high school I was an active member in the National Honor Society, Future Business Leaders of America, and a Varsity Cheerleader. I graduated with honors and earned a Presidential Scholarship to Chandler/Gilbert Community College, which I will be attending in the fall. I plan on graduating with an Associates of Business and then continuing my education at Arizona State University where I will work towards becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
A few of the service projects I have participated in included: The Child Crisis Center, March of Dimes, Operation Christmas Child, making health kits for the homeless, and Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Walks. I completed over 100 hours of community service in one year and was awarded a Presidential Volunteer Service Award for 2006.
Currently over 800,000 Arizonans live in poverty and 20% of them are children. I believe that no person should go hungry and that is why I am partnering up with The United Food Bank. As our economy continues to struggle the need for assistance will increase greatly. It is critical that we have enough supplies on hand to keep up with the demand. So many people would go without if it were not for food banks across the country. I want to use my voice as Miss Teen International to help raise awareness to the public about this basic need and what we all can do to help.
